This ornate map of Kent County remains the best preserved work within the GLO Archives of draftsman William Sydney Porter, better known as the great American short-story writer O. Henry. Before rising to prominence as one of America’s preeminent writers, Porter served four years as a GLO draftsman during the tenure of Commissioner Richard M. Hall, a family friend with whom Porter travelled to Texas in 1882.
