Zinnias was painted by Houston artist Emma Richardson Cherry. Through her work as a teacher, lecturer, civic organizer and professional artist, she helped shape the environment of the city and of Texas. One of the earliest female professional artists in Houston, she worked in oils, watercolors, pastels, pencil and charcoal and was known for her painting of flowers. Using a magnifying glass, she painted until a few weeks before her death at the age of 95.
