The Coming Rain is painted in the colorful impressionistic style favored by artist Rolla Sims Taylor. He was born in Galveston where he began painting at the age of 14. His family moved to Houston, then settled in Cuero. After graduating from the Cuero Institute, Taylor was an official court reporter in the district courts of Bexar County for fifty-seven years while painting on the weekends and on vacations. He studied with Robert Jenkins Onderdonk, Jose Arpa and Theodore Gentilz.
