Bridge on San Antonio River is painted in a realistic style and depicts a bridge to the north of downtown San Antonio. Artist Jose Arpa y Perea was born in Spain and studied first in Seville, than Rome. He moved to San Antonio in 1923 and started a painting school. A brilliant colorist, Arpa earned the nickname Sunshine Man with his deft skill in depicting sunlight and shadows. He later returned to Seville and died at the age of 94.
