Mexican Huts, San Antonio, Texas was painted by the native Texas artist Edward Grenet. He was born in San Antonio in 1856 but traveled to New York to study art. Grenet later studied in France with William-Adolphe Bouguereau, one of the first instructors of Henri Matisse. He was recognized at the Grand Salon in Paris before he returned to San Antonio in 1878 for a brief Texas career painting portraits and genre scenes. He returned to Paris, France, in 1885 and died there.
