In the Truck Gardens of San Antonio depicts a farm growing vegetables to sell at the market. The artist Julian Onderdonk is one of the most widely known and respected early Texas artists, famous for his paintings of Texas bluebonnets, but equally skilled at depicting the beauty and mood evoked by any landscape. The son of artiest Robert Jenkins Onderdonk, Julian studied art in New York at the Art Students League. He died at the young age of 40, cutting short a prolific and important artistic career.
