Ranger Encampment is one of two paintings in the Capitol Collection executed and signed by important early Texas artist Louis Eyth. He immigrated to Texas from Prussia in the early 1840s and settled in Galveston, training with well-known daguerreotypists and artists, Blessing and Company. He moved to San Antonio in 1878 and worked as a book illustrator, known for representing historic scenes with spirit and accuracy.
